General Troubleshooting Tips Do you have the correct model printer? KidCheck
supports either a DYMO LabelWriter 400/450, Dymo Labelwriter 400/450 Turbo, Dymo Labelwriter Twin, or a Zebra LP2488-Z
printer. All other label printers are not supported by the system. If you are using a
printer other than Dymo or Zebra, please contact support at
1-866-938-1980. We will attempt to get your printer working, but we
cannot guarantee it.
Here are some common reasons why your Dymo LabelWriter 400 and Dymo
Labelwriter 400 Turbo printer might not be working. 1) Printer is not selected
To
resolve this start Check-in. Choose "Close". In the Close Check-in
dialogue box find printers. In your list of available printers find the
printer you wish to use and choose it. Select "Save Printer Selection".
Each Dymo printer has a unique ID. If you move a printer from
one computer to another it may create a copy of printer in the drop
down list. To remove the copy you must also go in to Control Panel and
edit or delete one of the printers. If you move your printers on a
regular basis, it is suggested that you label them and always match
them up with the same computer to avoid this issue.
2) Outdated Print Driver
If
you're running Windows Vista or Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 8.0 you may need to
update your printer driver. To do so, go to Dymo's website at www.dymo.com,
choose the Support tab, and follow the link for "Drivers and
Downloads". Choose the the right driver that matches your printer and
Operating System and select download. Once completed, follow the
instructions for installation. You will need to close and restart
Internet Explorer before the changes will take effect.
3) Wrong size printer labels
If
your printer is periodically generating a blank label, it may be that
you are using the wrong size label. KidCheck only works with label size
30256 (2 5/16" x 4" ).
4) Labels are loaded upside down
Dymo
label printers are thermal and therefore require no ink. If the labels
are loaded incorrectly they will not print. Load labels inside the
printer with the label side facing down. 5) No labels are selected
When
checking in kids, make sure that the requested labels are not set on
(0). If all labels are set on zero, no labels will be printed. No
receipt will be printed when no labels are selected. 6) Printer been moved from one computer to another KidCheck works well on laptops and portable systems, but there are special considerations with printing if you routinely move the printers around. Windows identifies each printer with a unique ID. If you then setup a computer with a printer and set it as the system default printer and then later plug in another printer, Windows will automatically setup a second printer, BUT NOT SET IT AS THE SYSTEM DEFAULT. To
resolve this start Check-in. Choose "Close". In the Close Check-in
dialogue box find printers. In your list of available printers find the
printer you wish to use and choose it (the new one may be labeled with "Copy1"). Select "Save Printer Selection".
To avoid this, we recommend labeling which printer goes with which laptop and always plugging the laptop into the same printer each time. 7) Label Printing not enabled in Check-in Station settings If you see no option to print labels in the check in screen, you most likely do not have label printing enabled in Check-in Station settings. To enable label printing, choose "Settings", then the "Check-In Station Settings" tab. Toward the bottom of the settings options you will see where you can enable label printing and choose options for the labels themselves. Choose "Save Changes" when you are done.
