KidCheck Secure Children's Check-In Shares Safety Resources for National Child Abuse Prevention Month

National Child Abuse Prevention Month is wrapping up for 2019. This year, the national focus was on how to create “Strong and Thriving Families” by ensuring the safety, permanency, and well-being of our nation’s children.

During April, many individuals and organizations recognize the importance of communities coming together to promote the well-being of children and families by preventing neglect and identifying child abuse.

For KidCheck, it’s an opportunity to raise awareness, provide resources, and encourage our community of child-focused organizations to get involved and utilize strategies to identify, prevent, and respond to neglect and abuse within their sphere of influence all year long.

Here are some resources to help organizations focus on safety:

  1. Safety Actions for Child-Centered Organizations – This post highlights areas of opportunity regarding improving child safety and some actions organizations are taking to address them.

  3. Leadership Conversations to Improve Child Safety: This post offers direction to help gain leadership support for improving child safety. It shares how to break down barriers, have the hard conversations, and obtain the required support to move forward.
  4. The Child Safeguarding Committee: Protecting the children you serve is a big job and simply cannot fall on only one person. The Child Safeguarding Committee seeks to create a safe environment for children by minimizing the grey area when interacting with children. Learn more about its role, how to recruit members, and get one started. 
  5. Gaining Leadership Support for Improving Child Safety: This is a two-part series that explores how to get leadership in your organization to prioritize child safety and offer the support you need. Gaining support is less about what you’re proposing and more about how you present the need.
  6. Free Video Series and Download: “Improving Child Safety in Your Organization”  Here’s a video series and companion pdf guide that provides actionable, specific best practices and suggestions that can easily be put into practice, to help you create a safe environment.
  7. Annual Child Safety Survey: Consider implementing an annual child safety evaluation or survey at the end of each year. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn where you’re doing well, and where you can improve.
